About

A bit about me

I’ve never been very good at talking about myself — but you’re on the ‘About’ page, so here it goes…

I was born and raised just outside Detroit, Michigan. Growing up, I spent a lot of time outdoors. I had a pet iguana when I was little — my sister wanted a dog but I was allergic. This isn’t working, let’s try a Q&A style.

Tell me a little about yourself.

Let’s get the basics out of the way first. I grew up outside Detroit, went to College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine, and have worked at multiple non-profit organizations in my ‘professional’ career. Mostly climate focused, but not exclusively. My underlying interest is in how change takes place and the power individuals have to push society forward.

What motivates you?

Lots of things, lots of people. But mostly an overwhelming desire to make the world a better place. Not the most original thing, but I’m fine with that. We need more people out in the world doing good.

What do you do in your free time?

I can usually be found out wandering in the wilderness, designing websites (like this one), or joining conference calls with other climate activists talking campaign strategy. But, let’s be real, I also love watching the latest Netflix show I’m addicted to — have you seen Broadchurch?

What’s the most amazing place you’ve been?

Probably Mount Desert Island. It’s not the most exotic place I’ve been, but living adjacent to a national park that happens to be a beautifully mountainous island that’s also nearly empty of tourists for half the year is pretty incredible.

If you could be any type of animal, what would it be?

Snow monkey. They always seem so chill in hot springs.

What’s your super power?

I’m pretty good at falling asleep almost anywhere. Funny, because I was terrible at falling asleep when I was little. Could never quite grasp how to do it right.

What’s your favorite food?

Avocados are high up the list. Also, tea. Does that count? I drink a lot of it.

How the heck do you say your last name?

Yeah, I get that question a lot. It’s pronounced my-or-ah-nah, but I’ll respond to pretty much anything approximating that.

Anything else you want to say?

Can’t think of anything right now, but if you check out the blog and my photography you’ll get a good idea of who I am. Also, apologies if this site goes dark from time to time… I have a habit of not posting things when I’m not perfectly happy with them. I’m working on that.
